What have we received?
The Lord allowed me to preach a message not long ago where I got to ask the question “What have we received from God?”. While I studied on this thought, I truly began to think about what I’ve heard my entire life: God blesses us beyond measure. I started last week out by writing some things that the Lord has blessed me with. I soon found my self reading in several places in the Bible of things that the Lord gives His people.
Salvation through His only begotten Son
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
This is the first and most important gift that God offers to each and everyone of us: salvation through His Son Jesus. He is the only way to Heaven: the greatest blessing that God offers to us.
The Holy Ghost
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:38
Once we get saved, we also receive the Holy Ghost. Through the Holy Ghost, we’re able to be led by the Lord, to understand His word, and to worship Him alongside other Christians.
Sight
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Isaiah 35:4-5
Much like Paul on the road to Damascus, once we come to accept the Lord, we gain our “spiritual sight”. Through the Holy Spirit, the Lord allows us to understand and discern His word. Before we get saved, we are just like a blind or deaf person, spiritually speaking, unable to discern His word.
